Research is often a hit or miss proposition. The more solid and reliable information you can provide me, the faster the results. Telling me that your great-grandfather worked at "Some brewery in Chicago -- I think," or "It was sometime around the Great Chicago Fire and Prohibition," isn't much help.

On the other hand, I did some additional research for an out-of-towner who had been accumulating information on a relative for the last 20 years. All I could do was confirm most of what he already knew, so detailed was his information. He was as happy as a clam, however, because my confirmation of his 20 year quest gave him peace of mind. In other words, he hadn't been wasting his time.
